Speaking after a visit to see the first of Winchester City Council's 146 new council homes at the Kings Barton estate to the north of Winchester, Martin Tod, Leader of Winchester City Council and Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight commented:

"We need more affordable housing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight - and Liberal Democrat councils are leading the way. It was great to visit Kings Barton and see the first of the 146 new affordable homes that Cala are building for Winchester City Council.  They look great, they’re low carbon and will have low energy bills and mark a great step towards the Liberal Democrat target of providing 1,000 new homes across the Winchester district by 2032. Getting more affordable homes for our region will be a top priority for me if I’m elected as Hampshire & the Isle of Wight’s Mayor.

"We also talked about the vital need for infrastructure to support new development and how that can be delivered at pace. Development can’t just be about sustainable homes: it’s about creating places to be proud of - and that means delivering the infrastructure that’s so vital too."
